Guidance on collaborative pilot

This is a pilot test of a new, collaborative approach for getting work done in the Climate CoLab. It will run during March and April of 2012.

Just like in the 2011 activities, anyone can create a proposal. But there is also a community proposal, where members are encouraged to work together in a collaborative way. Any member can contribute to the community proposal as long as they are logged in.

The community proposal is like a wiki, so the history of edits is tracked, and you can revert to prior versions of the proposal if desired.

Please also use the Comments to express your opinion on whether or not you would like to see this collaborative approach used in the Climate CoLab in 2012.

Feel free to organize the proposal as you see fit. One thought—it's good to have a brief summary of the overall proposal at the top, as an aid to readers.

Proposal Text


TriTrack is a dual mode car that is hyper energy efficient.  It swaps its battery (patented) as it continues to roll and it drives on the street as car but then converts and goes up onto a metal triangular petite guideway.  This allows for high speed at a low cost.  The price of the car sans the battery mule is about $10K.  The batteries are like the yellow bicycle program and you buy your power via the battery mules which are borrowed not bought.  At 5 cents a mile energy cost it can be powered by PV solar panels 7 foot wide under the guideway.  High speed through all existing cities is the carrot to the consumer and clean air with no excuses is the result.  Fully energy sustainable with no input from nuclear power, no coal, no natural gas and not sweet crude oil needed.  The system is self-powered and does not require any new electric generation capacity.  This is accomplished with applied aeronautical engineering and combining several available technologies together.  These special clean cars are powered by five different power modes depending on what part of your trip you are on.  The boost from road speed to high speed is via linear motors built into the guideway.  This keeps everyone from having to buy a 300 hp V8 for acceleration but the large motor for acceleration is shared 9.3 seconds at a time with the community.  The motor and battery mule for the street is popped on from underneath at 40 mph so you never have to go to a gas station again if you don't want to.  The dead weight of the street battery and street drive train is removed when you go onto the monorail guideway so no need to take that mass to high speed just the passengers and guideway motor and different battery pack.  The car parks itself with a separate little guided trolley and when you get ready to go the car meets you under the portico out of the rain and you hop in your cell phone summoned car.  There is plenty of room for skis or luggage and you and three of your friends.  20 foot long.

What actions do you propose?

Commercialization of these three patents is the task at hand.  This task is made harder by the stagnation in state and federal DOTs as they tend to resist all change.  If you want to DO something write your government officials of all stripes and ask them if they would consider building two brand new layers in each and every city and town in .  These two safe layers will be faster cleaner and use no foreign oil and require no new power poles to be erected.  The project is self funded and profitable for these cities.  Once going it will be similar to cable TV where a city would be paid a franchise fee for the avigation rights over certain streets in a city.  (about every two miles) those avigation rights would allow the guideway to be built and the differential from your gas rip off to sunshine powered cars will be more than enough to pay the city for the franchise and get you to work at 3 miles per minute while on the guideway.  Calls and emails no longer work with government officials.  They do better with old-tech letters with stamps

Who will take these actions?

It will take a groundswell of citizens asking for clean transportation that is actually 100% clean.  The cry to get off foreign oil is not loud enough to drown out the 3 trillion dollars/year in economic loss to the public buying oil and oil products.  Imagine how rich the country would be if we did not ship all our available cash overseas via the pump?  Politicians have failed us completely and they are dysfunctional so it is up to us the citizens to solve the problem of clean air and energy for future generations.  Increasing standards to what is already on the streets is insane considering the next generation will be left in the lurch as we burn up the front fence like renters.  If you really want to shake things up in the short term call Colorado Department of Transportation and ask for the Interstate 70 project director and ask that they build TriTrack from to Vail over the continental divide.  That project will illustrate how guideway is superior to trains over challenging terrain. 

Where will these actions be taken?

The paradigm shift for actual sustainable cars is world wide.  Everyone should take action in their community to ask for better.  The developing world is every more sensitive to the need for sustainable energy as supplies are constrained as oil wells slow production from easy fields, the struggling countries will see famine water shortages and poverty like never before.  Creating transportation that runs on sunshine is every more critical for them.  Being able to ship irrigation water to their crops and then ship their output to ports is crucial for struggling economies.  It can be argued that the developing world needs it more and they can leapfrog developed nations just like cell phones have eclipsed land lines in those countries.  The biggest change has to occur in as those are the people who waste your money on big box transit that has a less than 2% market capture yet use the spare money necessary to build out of our mess.

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

100% reduction in emissions using sunshine to power the city transportation grid with 7 foot wide PV panels powering advanced dual mode cars with a Cd of .07 and frontal area of 14 square feet and rolling coefficient of .004 because it rolls on steel wheels on metal surface.  It is the .07 Cd that totally dominates at higher speeds and that requires that cars look different but run great.  

What are other key benefits?

The biggest advantage to the family is more quality time at home with your kids.  Saving a few dollars a day on fuel is great and breathing cleaner air will give you kids less asthma but the real gift of TriTrack is much more time with your family or loved ones.  Sitting in mind numbing traffic is not only disrespectful of your time is puts you in a bad mood when you do make it home.  Solving traffic flow with a centralized routing computer on two brand new transportation layers in your city will make your commute about the same length as an elevator ride and with less grid power being used.

What are the proposal’s costs?

If we build the corridor project that will fund the expansion.  It costs 5 cents a mile to operate the car at high speed and cars last year according to AAA cost you 75 cents per mile to operate.  This huge amount of savings will be used to expand once the first installation is in.  Over the we are particularly energy efficient as we recycle energy to go up and down with high conversion efficiency.  In rough numbers it will take us about $200k to complete pilot production.  About $300k for the 1000 foot long demo guideway on the banks of the in Comfort and any city project that wants to be first.  There are lots of people who want to be first to be second.
