Pitch

They were only small islands in the rising sea - mere footprints in the sand - without food, water, and shelter - soon to be forgotten!

Description

Summary

SAFELY ADDRESSING LOCAL AND REGIONAL ADAPTATION!

Research has reported the past year that sea level rise is 1.4 inches

above the 1983 to 2010 average.

The IPCC estimates the sea level rise could be 6.6 feet (2 meters) by

2100.

As the oceans continue to rise due to ice melt and thermal expansion,

many agree that no later than 2070, over 150 million residents will be

exposed to coastal flooding with lost revenue exceeding $35 Trillion

(USD).

_________________________________________________________

A rise of just 3 feet would submerge the eleven islands of Kiribati,

Maldives, Seychelles, Torres Strait Islands, Tegua, Solomon, Micronesia,

Palau, Carteret Islands, Tivalu, and Bangladesh which would make them

un-inhabitable.

Many scientists fear the inexorable advancement of the rising seas will

submerge the Florida Keys and their exotic crown jewell, Key West.

_________________________________________________________

Super storm Sandy of 2012 is an example of the devastating effects

rising sea levels can cause when mixed with a perfect storm.

__________________________________________________________

According to Nabil Ismail, professor of Coastal Engineering at the

University of Hawaii at Manoa, stated that Super storm Sandy sent a

storm surge of 4-5 m onto New Jersey's and New York's barrier island

and urban shorelines, estimated at $70 billion in damage.

If we consider the reasonable axiom that "so goes the islands, so goes

the planet",  we must address three realities.

(1) With ample food, water, and shelter . . there is NORMALCY!

(2) With limited food, water, and shelter . . there is ADAPTATION!

(3) With-out food, water, and shelter . . there is MIGRATION and

     CHAOS!

Category of the action

Mitigation/Adaptation, Changing public attitudes about climate change

What actions do you propose?

This SAFE and EFFECTIVE, common sense transition to adaptation

project is focused to provide the unique tools our planetary

researchers and inventors need to reduce the impacts of coastal

flooding . . while simultaneously creating fish stock, food pods, and

clean energy.

__________________________________________________________

(1) REDUCING the IMPACTS of STORM SURGE and COASTAL

FLOODING.

Strategically position, easy to handle, polyethylene conduits

72"inch diameter or larger) drilled or perforated with small holes

and filled with sand and custom blends on the coastal areas of

mainland countries, islands, and lake shores . . prone to storm

surge, coastal flooding, and ocean acidity.

The estimated cost of 72" diameter polyethylene conduit is $320

per lineal foot.

1/4 mile - 1320 feet x's $320 ='s $422,400

1/2 mile - 2640 feet x's $320 ='s $844,800

1 mile - 5280 x's $320 ='s $1,689,600

The above prices of $320 per lineal foot of 72" diameter

polyethelene conduit do not factor in the cost and variables of

freight and labor associated with the application.

These costs will fluctuate from location to location.

__________________________________________________________

(2) EXPANDING FISH STOCK.

If these conduits are also to be used for expanding fish stock

development, access ports may be used to refill these conduits

with a prescriptive blend of sand and nutrients to encourage

marine growth and sustainability.

___________________________________________________________

(3) REDUCING OCEAN ACIDITY USING WEATHERIZATION.

We may also use conduits (drilled or perforated with small holes

and access ports) to refill prescriptive blends of sand and

limestone materials using the ebb and flow of the ocean to help

neutralize the acidity devastating our coral reefs.

__________________________________________________________

(4) MANUFACTURING FOOD PODS FOR HUMAN SUSTENANCE.

The huge conduits are filled with a prescriptive blend of sand and

nutrients where food pods with evolved mechanisms that allow

them to survive in saline conditions are inserted conducive to

intercropping and maximum growth patterns in local and regional

areas.

___________________________________________________________

(5) PRODUCING CLEAN ENERGY.

Mount easy to install and replace wind turbines on the coastal

conduits to help provide clean energy and essentials to the local

communities.

___________________________________________________________

THE FLEXIBILITY OF THIS TRANSITION TO ADAPTATION

APPLICATION IS ESPECIALLY DESIGNED TO BE MODIFIED,

CONNECTED, SAFE AND EFFECTIVE FOR LOCAL AND REGIONAL

AREAS.

Who will take these actions?

Governments, institutions, collations, consortiums, Non-profit

Organizations (NPOs), Non-government Organizations (NGOs) and

individuals concerned about the welfare of everyone on Planet Earth.

Where will these actions be taken?

Strategic locations on Planet Earth who need adaptation to neutralize

migration.

What are other key benefits?

Anytime governments, groups, and individuals will step forward to

proactively respond to the greater good as caretakers of Planet

Earth, we have the hope of a tomorrow for those within our

responsibility.

What are the proposal’s costs?

The objective is to lease and contract machinery and personnel

locally if possible.

All projects may be scaled up or down contingent upon

requirements and affordability.

If we will proactively apply prudent innovation in local and regional

projects, we may achieve safe and effective benefits.

_________________________________________________________

The main advantage of a seawall is that it provides a degree of

protection against coastal flooding and erosion.

__________________________________________________________

The approximate cost of a low-end buffer boundary to reduce

erosion between the sea and the land like a Rubble Mound of

Boulders will run around $150 USD per lineal foot.

________________________________________________________

The approximate cost of an engineered and better constructed

seawall, designed to reflect and scatter ocean energy, will cost

approximately $3,000 USD per lineal foot.

Costs will vary contingent on the vertical height of the wall

structure.

_________________________________________________________

The estimated cost of 72" diameter polyethylene conduit is $320

USD per lineal foot.

This cost does not factor in the cost and variables of freight and

labor associated with the application - which will fluctuate from

location to location.

__________________________________________________________

Time line

Progress begins when one individual has a simple discussion with a

friend about their abilities to make a difference.

_________________________________________________________

Action begins when they have a discussion about a possible solution.

__________________________________________________________

The time line here depends on how many of us will seek and

embrace enough of the responsibility to make a difference.

If our planetary leaders continue thinking "inside-the-box",

declining to be connected, choosing the indecision of business as

usual, Planet Earth will inevitably succumb to our vices and

superficial reasoning.

If we FAIL in our attempt to provide the economical and

environmental sustainability to peacefully find continuity . .

humanity will pay a huge price for the social upheaval and chaos of

adaptation and migration tomorrow!

                            My Cavalier Transition To Adaptation!

Fourteen years ago . . I was 57 and telling everyone who would listen . . I

believed we could have a better world by exchanging the excesses of

today for the essentials of tomorrow.

When our daughter and son finally became adults and no longer lived at

home, I persuaded my wife (a retired teacher) to help me build a small

cabin off-the-grid in the Kiamichi Mountains of Oklahoma.

I repeatedly told her that all we had to do was exchange those things we

took for granted and retain the essentials.

We moved into our cabin with the ESSENTIALS OF FOOD, WATER,

and SHELTER . . in 2000.

There was no electricity, no AC. We used propane to cool our food,

cook, and heat. When our well was dry, we hauled water. We used a

solar panel to charge our phone and computer batteries.

Due to labor intensity, health issues, and the lifetime teaching skills of my

wife who repeatedly reminded me that living outside our comfort zone

was more of a challenge than what I had anticipated . . we moved back

to the grid in 2010.

I immediately turned on the AC - took a long shower and went to bed.

As a researcher and inventor, I viewed this 10 year journey as an

opportunity to help me evaluate three realities!

(1) With ample food, water, and shelter . . there is NORMALCY!

(2) With limited food, water, and shelter . . there is ADAPTATION!

(3) Without food, water, and shelter . . there is MIGRATION &

CHAOS!

__________________________________________________________

This ten year project, also, helped us realize that if Planet Earth

was thrust into a situation where the essentials of food, water, and

shelter were no longer available . . the chaos of mass migration in

a lawless world could become a planetary nightmare of life and

death.

Please believe me when I say that Planet Earth needs serious

medicine!
