Pitch

ila is a multi-functional element that covers many function into a home. With the use of ecoboard it has a NEGATIVE carbon footprint.

Description

Summary

Category of the action

Reducing consumption

What actions do you propose?

Ila is conceived with the following principle:

circular minimalism
the combo of evaluating the true relevance of a product with less materials that are put into a circular system.

  • Evaluating the true relevance in a way that you don't really need a G6 phone one day or a G7 the next sorta speak, just another table design or gadget,
  • Using minimalism and the tendency to search for products that uses less and less materials and energy use, to simplify construction methods to make it available in any local workshop.
  • the materials that are used could be put into a circular system/economy.

Within this framework I look for local manufacturers with a social relevance, together with this ecologic relevance you can create a win win situation all over.

Who will take these actions?

ecoboard: manufacturer of the material

groenzone: a small company looking for new ways

Tim Guldentops: designer of ila

Kunnig: manufacturer of the design (?)*

* not yet certain

Where will these actions be taken?

Belgium, EU

When successful, I would like to try out a "localized" environment to spread this one out.

This means fragment and localize everything as much as possible to it's place of use, placing production and sales in the area of usage to reduce transportation emissions/costs and empowering the local economy.

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

the material used has a NEGATIVE carbon footprint,

the design has a high possible relevance in almost any household, actions are minimized to the maximum to decrease energy use and waste.

Almost everything is right, it's multifunctional, minimal, negative emissions, ecologically, esthetically correct, minimized construction and labor costs, possible relevance, ...

What are other key benefits?

It is an attempt to produce something within a high cost and/or local environment, with social and ecological benefits.

What are the proposal’s costs?

Time line

I expect this design to have a medium term lifespan at least due to it's timeless design and strength.

When it goes to waste everything can disintegrate without any damage to the environment, or be recycled.
