Urban Health and Wellbeing by Urabn Health
Pitch
How can we address emerging challenges of health and wellbeing in cities as test labs for global sustainability?
Description
Summary
We propose to apply a collaborative agent based model in combination with participatory process in order to improve health and wellbeing in cities and thereby address challenges of climate change.
Category of the action
Building efficiency: Physical Action
What actions do you propose?
We will identify the actions which will lead to an improvement of health and wellbeing in cities, e.g. improving urban green and walkability in a city, which will simultaneously mitigate the impacts from climate change, e.g. urban heat islands.
Currently we are in the process of organizing the process with the Beirut Arab University in Beirut, Lebanon.
Who will take these actions?
University, government authorities, citizens, research organizations, resilience brokers
Where will these actions be taken?
Beirut, Lebanon
How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?
No projections ave bee made so far
What are other key benefits?
In a first workshop, participants have identified a list of probem areas for the city of Beirut. Urban green and walkability was collectively agreed upon as an action area. Improving urban green and walkability of the city is nt only a beautification of the city, it improves air quality, is an incentive to walk the city, thereby reduces obesity, improves social connectedness and neighborhood relations, and reduces the heat island effect.
Urban green and walkability is an entry point to improving urban climate with various health co-benefits.
What are the proposal’s costs?
Specific actions still need to be identified in a second workshop October 2017
Time line
Proposed actions still need to be identified collectively with stakeholders
