The systematic application of EPDs in the building supply chain is a great idea, and could potentially have great impact. However, implementation is likely to be very complex, is likely to require serious management, and not be within the estimated budget. The eco label/mosaic itself sounds complex, and for the man-in-the-street to tell at a glance how good a building is, would require some form of rating. Building rating tools are well-used already, so it is not clear that this proposal would inspire or significantly 'build awareness and demand for green buildings' amongst the public. Terrific challenging status quo pitch. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) has real merit and could appeal to the public. More detail on what the sustainable mosaic ecolabel system (SMES) could look like/ be comprised off would be helpful. Additional information on what labels/information the public has awareness of that should be included/addressed would also strengthen this Pitch.
