Pitch

Amazon sets up opportunities to cut down on individual deliveries, instead combines deliveries to people who live close to each other

Description

Summary

Amazon.com, Inc offers a program where you can find others in your neighborhood who have placed an order in the last 24hrs and/or sends out an alert to your neighbors that you are about to place an order and asks if anyone would like to "neighbor share" an order.  One delivery is made to one address, individuals are responsible for getting their order from that address (ideally walking to pick it up).  Coworkers could also make up your "neighborhood" since your package could be brought to work.  Individual orders are discreetly packaged so your neighbor cannot see what you ordered.  Amazon will save huge amounts of money in delivery costs and then pass part of it along to the customers in a 10% discount.  The discount will be an incentive for individuals to take part in this.  The amount of reduced CO2 emissions from decreased amount of deliveries will be massive.

What actions do you propose?

Amazon sets up algorithms to determine who your neighbors are

Who will take these actions?

Amazon and consumers will take action in choosing this program

Where will these actions be taken?

Internationally

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

Amazon does not share the amount of emissions it creates but it could easily be millions of tons of CO2 reduced.

What are other key benefits?

Sense of community is enhanced by having to interact with your neighbors.  No drones polluting our sky view.

What are the proposal’s costs?

Very minimal since algorithms already exist that can figure out where you live.

Time line

Within the next year the program can be rolled out.
