Pitch

Favorable in-store product placement, in-exchange for advances in energy efficiency.

Description

Summary

The nation of Fiji is interested in reducing it's dependence on foreign energy.  They have suggested an interest in smart appliances which disable the auto-defrost during warm seasons.

While smart appliances focus on the high-end market of highly experimental smart technology, there is a much larger market of low-end customers seeking smart technology solutions which find relatively small energy savings.

The advertising budget required to enter these markets is very low and the competition is less fierce.  It can be a very inexpensive proving ground for new technology, before approaching a much more risky global marketplace.

For nations who are energy importers, these appliances have huge impacts on a national energy consumption, so perhaps government and news media cooperation on these products will be facilitated.

What actions do you propose?

Similar to the methods that DARPA uses to solicit advanced research projects, energy-poor nations need to develop a simple framework for requesting the production of green technologies.
The framework includes a simple web interface for browsing the requests for green technology which include:
  - the creation of highly specialized and reusable frameworks.
  - a ranking of the quality of the frameworks and the user nations.
  - an open history of what worked and didn't work
  - an itemized review of where money was spent
  - an unbiased third-party review of the project
  - a success/failure score of each project.

Who will take these actions?

Where will these actions be taken?

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

What are other key benefits?

What are the proposal’s costs?

For the first round of projects at least one manufacturer and one small nation must commit to completing this project.  Total cost: $20,000.

Production of a website and several example frameworks: $10,000.
Recruit leadership from at least one resource poor nation from G8, Geneva or United Nations: $5,000.
Recruit leadership from at least one appliance manufacturer from CES: $5000.
