Judges'' comments
- A proposal to use a proprietary "Growboxx" technology for large-scale reforestation and afforestion. Proposed by a company "Groasis" from The Netherlands (www.groasis.com/en). The company apparently has existing plans for near-term scale-up.
- The technology is impressive, and the problem is an important one. There are various international programs taking on this issue of massive restoration, but they all lack sufficient funding to go to large scale. This proposal is appealing and persuasive, but falls short of "cleat" on the finance side. The proposal says it has "no costs" since it is profit making, but then seems to be asking for investments.

Novelty: 3/5 Novel for the proposed scale of action. Afforestation and agroforestry are not novel in general.
Workability: 2/5 Unclear who is to do what, and when. The bottom line of 78.6 billion Euros/year is daunting, and unlikely to be fully funded. Is there an intermediate milestone that can demonstrate proof-of-concept, before the whole amount is required?
Effectiveness: 3/5 Afforestation and agroforestry have strong long-term potentials for climate change mitigation.
Thoroughness: 2/5 Proposal is lacking specifics regarding actors, actions, costs, etc.
Presentation: 3/5 Generally well presented. An image of the proposed “Growboxx” would be helpful.

The basic idea is good, but there is no responsible person or group to carry it out. No budget to show the steps to be taken to get the eventual 4.7 trillion Euros required. Overall not supportable.
