Great proposal! One of the best proposals I've read so far. Well-defined and written. I like your methodology. Good open-ended questions, specially the one about brands. People could buy certain brands due to economic reasons so that could lead to the economic aspect of environmental issues which is income. Best of luck, Paulo

Dear bubbukitty, Perfectly planned, well mapped out proposal. I like the snowball idea. It's great to hear that you've already started within your close living environment. I wish you luck, Gunesh

Thank you guys for the kind words (: Paulo, I always intend to include the economic factor in my initiatives, I believe this discipline serves as a necessary inclusion in any social action/engagement regime if we are to look at real world problems needing addressing.

Thanks Paulo, that would be greatly appreciated, I am particularliy on the look out for a richer and more detailed description and operational definition for the term 'participism', or any alternative that could ultimately be introduced to my participants as a potential movement that replaces the 'capitalist' way of life. This having been said, I only intend on making South African youths more aware of and inform them of alternative political movements/structures, that could be more suited to living more sustainably, hence reducing major consumerist practices currently in place. Thank you once again for your support thus far Paulo

I have given similar comments to other proposal as well. In today world one can observe the power to technology and particularly IT tools, smartphone that can tremendously increase reach and create disruptive solutions to biggest challenges. So my first advise on the proposal would be to have greater reliance on technology to drive change. Secondly I would advise you to take one sample town or small city where you have data on population, average electricity/energy consumption and if you run the proposed program with certain assumptions of lifestyle changes, renewable energy adoptions etc and lead to reduction in carbon footprint. You can work that out for one of the town and show the impact it can create. This way there would be more sharpness in the proposal. I wish you all the best for your proposal.

I like this project because I believe that questionnaires/surveys of this nature help people reflect on who they are, and where they are going—and I agree with paulobrito’s comment “Good open-ended questions”. These surveys, and the multi-cultural focus groups proposed, can be a lead in to social action, and universities should prove to be good starting points for this survey—focus group—social action sequence.

For so many of the reasons already pointed out above... you have my support as well! And, even though it has already been said, it is worth repeating that this is an extremely well organized and presented plan.

Thank you for the kind comments Robert xxx I need assistance in the following: Should the implementation of my current initiative among South African youths be a success, I would like any advice on how I could go about sampling a larger student population in any planned future qualitative initiatives, which is cost effective and rules out any sampling biases. Just a recap, currently I have used snowballing and word by mouth techniques to gather my sample for the focus groups. Should I gather a larger sample in future, I once again will rule out race, ethnicity, as well as gender. Any help would be greatly appreciated (:

This is an interesting group to research. It would have been good to see some more details about the survey sample size and how the data would be used.
