How can we enable young people to take leadership now, and make a difference against climate change?

In our times of climate urgency, youth involvement on the issue often consists of tree-plantings, awareness campaigns and media happenings in the sidelines of decision-making arenas. Yet, there is much more that the most numerous, educated and connected generation in history could do to help solve this enormous challenge. The Elders and CliMates seek innovative ways to empower youth in climate change decision-making and high-impact climate action. This could include changes in education systems, economic models, democratic institutions, or even cultural perceptions that could take us beyond the “youth-are-the-leaders-of-tomorrow” discourse, and enable young people to take leadership now on an issue that threatens them more than most.
