Semi-Finalist Evaluation

Judges'' comments

Dear RECICLApps,

Thank you very much for your proposal on the “Youth action on climate change” contest.
Your proposal was among the 15 which the Fellows pre-selected for the Judges but unfortunately, it didn’t make it to the semi-finals.

The workability and social dimension of it were particularly appreciated by the Judges. However, this proposal felt more focused on improving lives and livelihoods than on action on climate change - not that it wouldn't be beneficial, but the clear environmental case for this isn't laid out. Focusing on waste reduction rather than waste management could probably be more impactful. Moreover, the Judges express ethical concerns because of the impact of working amongst garbage dumps on the young people doing the work. The project could feel like a validation of this informal and undecent work - and, if these young people are already at a significant disadvantage, will they have the resources to deliver trainings (in terms of time not spent working, travel...)? The use of IT in meeting these challenges was not clearly detailed, though it appears promising.

Thanks again for your contribution, and best of luck in participating in future CoLab contests or taking this idea to other avenues!

Best,
Antoine on behalf of the “Youth action” fellows
