Our generation should think in the future and the challenges that we have, this idea it's the first step to make the difference about global warming energy efficiency and GHG, certainly every change starts with an idea, and this is one of the best ideas I've ever heard.

Thanks felipeink. Thats correct. We should start thinking in long terms. It will be a breakdown!

Absolutely agree, rather than technology, the problem is how to organize our countries to supply energy and simultaneously make people take responsibility about the process. I think reducing the size of this circle is a great idea. Each village should be able to produce their own energy. My question is: is possible to establish a number of inhabitants and a minimum of surface that a region or village should have in order to produce their own energy? I'm thinking in future legislation about it, e.g.: If a region has more than 500.000 inhabitants is compulsory to their administration to produce their own energy, as well as for a region with holds more than 200.000 hectares of land. What do you think?
Great project
Congratulations

Dear Ceab,
Thanks for your opinio, and I should say that your question is quite difficult.
At least in Chile, there are Regulatory Plans for Urban Planning (PROT). They include boundaries of each region, and the investment, new infrastructure, villages and energy projects are currently carried out.
There is a fact, every single house is at least able to generate their own energy demand. (PV supply + Batteries), but is not the best cost-effective solution. There are places where the investment and the payback are acceptable, but just under good weather conditions.
On the other hand, spaces to build projects are every time rare or difficult to find, therefore, is an important problem for investors. Besides, habitable spaces are more and more expensive than rural zones, this is one reason to explain why projects usually are installed there. Finally, the installation of the transmission system it helps to move energy from the most cost-effective and with more potencial areas, such as the north of Chile (sun) and the south of Chile (hydropower).
In a nutshell, the better solution is find a balance between a perfect matrix of different technologies, location and land uses. It is quite important to consider that exists a huge potential in energy reduction (energy efficiency) that should be consider before taking a policy desition.
Kind Regards

Ceab,
According to your opinion the proposal, I want to emphasize that LIES will show to everyone what are the opportunities in an area with a certain limits defined at the beginning, as every municipality can have their own LIES. However, it will be focus on leverage investments from the private investors, enterprices owners and local/national governments, using the Regional Energy Platform. The idea is to demonstrate where is the mutual benefit (win-win), either in private companies to show what are the benefits of investing in energy efficiency under the new policies that are going to take effect, or to local governments to consider a certain amount of budget for energy issues. Actually, LIES should include a report with the most cost-effective solutions in short terms for municipalities, the most important changes in long term for the bigger consumers in the area. Therefore, even more important than considering the distributed generation at a residencial level is a vision of the bigpicture. Ofcourse there will be places where investment at the residencial level will be a priority under proper condition such as; radiation, wind or waste material availability.
Thanks for your comment!
