PAIR Taxi is an innovative transport solution to incentivise the entire society to embrace ridesharing and reduce carbon emissions.

Description

Summary

In cities, especially big cities like New York City, Beijing and Singapore, road congestion is a norm during rush hours. Transportation plays a significant part in CO2 emission and road congestion makes the matter even worse.

If you look around, it is not hard to notice there is only one passenger inside most of the cars on the road. Based on our field research in March 2015 in Singapore, 80% of the taxis on the road between 6-8pm have only one passenger in it. If we pack those passengers together to fill in the empty seats in the taxis, we will solve the rush-hour taxi supply shortage issue, reduce the number of cars on the road and ultimately reduce congestion, pollution and CO2 emission.

PAIR Taxi is an innovative on-demand taxi sharing app. It matches commuters travelling from the same starting location and going to nearby destinations to share a cab effortlessly. To make ridesharing less hassled and more attractive, PAIR Taxi provides a smooth user experience and incentives for both commuters and taxi drivers compared to traditional non-shared rides.

2. Incentives to commuters and taxi drivers

Each commuter gets a 20% discount off the standard taxi fare when they share the ride with others. Drivers get a 30% to 50% bonus for taking 2-party or 3-party sharing rides respectively. Each party has economically incentives to share a taxi. The fare is calculated automatically based on taximeter fare and commuters pay the trip fare via one click through cashless payment.

3. The next step

  • We plan to expand to cities with no taxi-stand concept. This would require our analytics to identify the taxi demand hotspots in cities where we can set up virtual taxi stands or PAIRing point.

  • Once we have enough trip data to analyze, we plan to provide ranked recommendations of PAIRing point based on the commuter's destination and current location to increase probability of pairing up.

  • We plan to provide more flexible and longer pairing up time for travelers not in a hurry and entertain advance booking.

  • In the long run, we plan to offer an integrated technical solution to link all public transport systems together, i.e. trains, buses and taxis etc, to provide seamless travel experiences using public transport.

  • We would like to partner with local taxi companies, public transport companies to implement taxi sharing and other strategies together.
