Pitch

Leaving industries chimneys is a lot of Hot Wasted Energy and CO2 and Water. Recover it ~ Reduce it ~ Conserve it.

Description

Summary

The technology of Condensing Flue Gas Heat Recovery is designed to recover the heat energy from the exhaust of combusted natural gas. Instead of hot exhaust cool exhaust is vented into the atmosphere ~ Reducing global warming.

The recovered heat energy can then be used for the purpose the natural gas was combusted, or it can be used for building space heating or to heat process or plant washdown water.

The US DOE states that for every 1 million Btu's of heat energy that is recovered from these combusted waste exhaust gases and this recovered heat energy is utilized, 117 lbs of CO2 will Not be put into the atmosphere. This can easily add up to tons per hour.

There is water in combusted natural gas. In every 1 million Btu's of combusted natural gas there are 5 gallons of recoverable water, and this distilled water is very useable.

What actions do you propose?

The 3 main items that effect Climate Change is

1) Reduce Global Warming  2) Reduce CO2 Emissions    3) Conserve Water

Increased natural gas energy efficiency = Reduced global warming         Increased natural gas energy efficiency = Reduced utility bills                 Increased natural gas energy efficiency = Water conservation

Natural gas can be consumed to near 100% energy efficiency. The residential market has appliances that prove this. Why does industry not readily follow? The homeowner has to pay their utility bills out of their take home pay. Industry adds the cost of their utilities into the selling cost of their product. The same incentive is not there. Competition or a Carbon Tax would change those thoughts.

When natural gas prices are high, the ROI for installing this technology is greatly reduced. When natural gas prices are low, attitudes change. This technology can increase the appliances efficiency from 70% or 80% to well over 90% providing a 10% to 20% reduction on their natural gas monthly utility bills. This is still considered Profit.

In an application with medium heat and high heat applications we suggest to use a waste heat boiler to produce steam to turn a turbine to create electricity. The flue gas temperature after the waste heat boiler will be then directed to our Sidel SRU Flue Gas Condenser where the low grade heat will be recovered and sent to be utilized.

Sidel Systems USA Inc. has just entered into an agreement with Wilson Vaneless Turbine. With this technology beside our equipment it is now  possible to convert the recovered heat energy into electricity that can be used onsite or put into the grid.                                                              There have been industrial applications where there was not a good application for applying the recovered heat energy. With the Wilson Vaneless Turbine all recovered heat energy can now be utilized.

Who will take these actions?

Who consumes large quantities of natural gas. Large commercial buildings, government and private industry- large and small. Co Generation and utility companies that produce electricity.

All these locations have chimneys and going up these chimneys is 20% or more of the energy that was just combusted. It is going into the atmosphere as HOT exhaust effecting Global Warming. It is CO2 that will effect Climate Change. It is water that we need on the ground and in these buildings and facilities.

Where will these actions be taken?

The standard Sidel SRU Flue Gas Condenser will be used in countries that have natural gas or LPG as their source for combustable energy and Increasing Energy Efficiency or where Reducing the Effects of Climate Change are desired. Natural gas is a clean fuel.

Sidel Systems and our sister company Sidel Global also have the technology to give the exhaust from combusted coal a purpose.             Waste is not Waste if it has a Purpose. America has coal and natural gas, but there are many countries that do not have a natural gas infrastructure and are much more dependent on coal. If the world is going to win in the battle against Climate Change this combusted coal exhaust is also going to have to be dealt with. This is a more intensive process, but "Clean Coal is Possible."

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

The US DOE states that for every 1 million Btu's of heat energy that is recovered from the natural gas waste exhaust gases and this recovered heat energy is utilized back in the building or facility, 117 lbs of CO2 will not be put into the atmosphere.

Not being put into the atmosphere can at some facilities be hundreds of lbs per hour, and at some they can be over a thousand lbs per hour. Multiply that by their daily operating hours, their weekly and monthly to yearly and this can be substantial.

In 2013 America's commercial buildings and industry and power plants consumed approximately. 19 Trillion cu.ft. of natural gas. How much was wasted? 40% ~ 60% ? At what temperatures?

What are other key benefits?

Increased natural gas energy efficiency = Reduced utility bills = Profit Increased natural Gas energy efficiency = Reduced global warming  Increased natural gas energy efficiency = Reduced CO2 emissions Increased natural gas energy efficiency = Water conservation

Engineering and installing this technology requires welders and mechanical companies. Across America there are millions of applications possible. This means that millions of people will be employed improving America's Environment and our Economy.

What are the proposal’s costs?

The technology of Condensing Flue Gas Heat Recovery is considered a "Custom Measure". Every project has to be individually engineered.  Some installations are straight forward and easy, others require alterations, more time and materials.

There are no negatives. The longest ROI on any project we have supplied our equipment to was 6 years. This was because this housing complex turned on their boilers on Oct. 15th and turned them off April 15th.

Most of our other clients had a 3 year or less ROI. Our oldest unit operating is 33 years old.

This SRU Condensing Flue Gas Heat Recovery requires little or no maintenance. It requires little or no electricity to operate. It is self cleaning on the flue gas side.

Time line

How important is this battle against Climate Change? This Increasing Natural Gas Energy Efficiency at America's industry should be started immediately. This technology is proven. These chimneys are stationary. Walking up to them with an analyzer probe will tell the importance for application. How hot are the exhaust gases? What are the CO2 levels?                                                                                                         The rest is some engineering, and then installation. Then the savings start! As long as the world is combusting fossil fuel this energy saving technology will be required.
