SUBJECT: Your proposal has been selected as a Finalist!
Congratulations! Your proposal, China’s rural-urban intensification. Envisioning the habitat of the future in the Rural Resilience contest, has been selected to advance to the Finalists round.
Be proud of your accomplishment – more than 350 proposals were submitted and only a very small number have been advanced through these two rounds of judging.
As a Finalist, your proposal is eligible for the contest’s Judges Choice award, as well as the contest’s Popular Choice award, which is determined by public voting.
If you haven’t already, you will soon receive an email from the Climate CoLab staff with details about the voting period. If you don’t receive that email within the next day, or have other questions, please contact the Climate CoLab staff at admin@climatecolab.org
All winners will be announced the week after the voting period ends, on September 12, 2015 at midnight Eastern Time.
Both Judges Choice and Popular Choice will receive a special invitation to attend selected sessions at MIT’s SOLVE conference and present their proposals before key constituents in a workshop the next day, where a $10,000 Grand Prize will be awarded. A few select Climate CoLab winners will join distinguished SOLVE attendees in a highly collaborative problem-solving session. Some contests have additional prizes given by the contest sponsor.

Comment 1:
Rural resilience is intimately involved with urban design and this project's authors realize this. Changes are underway in China that indeed will affect the entire world, and these need to be much better understood. By examining environmental phenomenology directly through a variety of means, this insightful and comprehensive research proposal will advance holistic and comprehensive understanding of key aspects of an emerging global civilization. The scale of work and vision implicated in this proposal are unmatched in the contest, though the proposed study of rural Karnataka, India shares some aspects of this at a regional scale.
Comment 2:
A detailed proposal utilising the expertise of the proposers. Addresses a critical issue in respect to the urbanization of China and as a research project is well designed.
The proposal does not make clear how the research will increase resilience to climate change specifically - this is implied in the last stage but is not discussed in detail and the bulk of the resource is targeted at earlier stages. Neither is it especially original as other projects led from both within and outside China has already focused on managing urbanization through planning practice and on building more sustainable settlements. The proposal notes that the support of the Chinese authorities would be needed for success, but implies that this support has not yet been obtained.

Congratulations! Your proposal, China’s rural-urban intensification. Envisioning the habitat of the future in the Rural resilience contest, has been selected to advance to the Semi-Finalists round.
You will be able to revise your proposal and add new collaborators if you wish, from July 1st until July 14, 2015 at 23:59pm Eastern Time.
Judges' feedback are posted under the "Evaluation" tab of your proposal. Please incorporate this feedback in your revisions, or your proposal may not be advanced to the Finalists round. We ask you to also summarize the changes that you made in the comment section of the Evaluation tab.
At the revision deadline listed below, your proposal will be locked and considered in final form. The Judges will undergo another round of evaluation to ensure that Semi-Finalist proposals have addressed the feedback given, and select which proposals will continue to the Finalists round. Finalists are eligible for the contest’s Judges Choice award, as well as for public voting to select the contest’s Popular Choice award.

2015 Climate CoLab Judges
The proposal says all the right things except what exactly it will do to help rural areas with climate change issues. This may be a nice project for the Chinese government to adopt as part of its urbanization policies, but I see little research aspect and benefit in it.

According to the Judge’s feedback we have underline the connection between rural resilience and climate change.
To do this we changed the section “What actions do you propose?” summarizing the Fours Tasks description. In particular we added the paragraph titled “Rural resilience > Climate change > Benefit of the project” with the aim to explain deeply in detail what exactly the proposal want to do to regenerate the rural areas in relationship with climate change issues and which are the benefits that those areas can achieve. Namely, we highlighted the aspects that the research is going to consider: limiting the climate impact of the expansion of the Chinese rural towns (with clear consequences at both local and global level) and strengthening the reactions of these settlements to the effects of the climate changes.
