Pitch

Using carbon dioxide made by a vehicle to produce fuel that powers a vehicle so that carbon dioxide is not released back into the air.

Description

Summary

There has been much news regarding the growing of algae using waste water and waste carbon dioxide supplied by stationary industrial plants. While it is good that carbon dioxide can be used to make fuels, a problem arises when this fuel is used by being burned and carbon dioxide is re-released.  Perhaps a way with dealing with this is to try to continually reuse the carbon dioxide again for algae that can be made into fuel. Capturing it from the exhaust of the vehicle and using it for an algae incubator on the vehicle itself may be a way to do this. This is the idea behind this proposal.

What actions do you propose?

Whenever carbon dioxide is used to breath, respire, feed, grow and reproduce algae in order to make algae fuels by tapping into a carbon dioxide source such as a stationary industrial plant smokestack, it will usually result later in the algae made fuel eventually being burned with the releasing of carbon dioxide into the air so that making fuels from algae using carbon dioxide only prolongs its release slightly, but it does not really get rid of carbon dioxide getting into the air.

Could there be a way in which the carbon dioxide can also be captured after the algae fuel it is burned and reused again?  Perhaps, there could be a way if the carbon dioxide is captured at its mobile source as well.  In this way, perhaps something can also be done in preventing carbon dioxide being released from burning algae fuel in order to reduce carbon dioxide produced emissions that affect and produce global warming.  In a sense, it would be the reuse of carbon dioxide produced by the burning of algae fuel and reusing the carbon dioxide to make algae fuel again.

Perhaps a way to do this would be to place an algae box like incubator tank with round, square, triangle and/or rectangle shape with or without tubes in it on the roof and/or other part of a vehicle like a car and/or on a hitch like trailer wagon attached to a vehicle like a car which could probably accommodate a larger algae incubator with several units.  It could be made of any strong, light and clear transparent material such as glass and/or plastic that allows sunlight and/or light to go into it and through it.

In addition to the algae, salt/fresh water and light/sunlight that is needed for the algae in the incubator tank, the vehicle is the source for both carbon dioxide from its exhaust waste and heat/warmth waste from its engine/motor which can both be channeled by means of some kind of pipe (flexible and/or ridged) into the vehicle algae incubator through inlets.  The key being here is that the vehicle exhaust waste carbon dioxide is the source of carbon dioxide for the vehicle algae incubator, especially for a vehicle that uses any algae based fuel so that in this way the carbon dioxide doesn’t get wasted by being released into the air/atmosphere as pollution.

The mature algae that is in the vehicle incubator has to eventually be taken and collected at a collection and fueling station where in its unfinished/unprocessed form it is to be finished and made into fuel.  Also, at this station new immature algae water slurry is pumped into the incubator to replace the algae that has been previously grown in the incubator and removed from it.  Also, the vehicle is fueled up with finished/processed algae fuel to power the vehicle and produce carbon dioxide to feed the immature new algae that was added to the incubator as well as heat from the motor, if necessary and needed.

If the main plant is separate from the collecting/fueling station, trucks and/or pipelines can take mature unfinished/unprocessed algae to the main processing plant and bring finished/processed algae fuel to the collecting/fueling station in a continuous exchange cycle between unfinished and finished fuel.

Perhaps at some point in the future, all the processes could be carried out using a closed on vehicle recycling process which uses the heat and energy from the vehicle to dry the algae and produce fuel while reusing/recycling the water removed from the algae by drying it with heat from the engine.  The  algae in the water slurry gets light/sunlight, heat and carbon dioxide all together in the incubator in order to get the algae to multiply/reproduce and to mature in order to be converted into fuel which is used by the vehicle as a source of energy and the waste products of heat and carbon dioxide are used.

Who will take these actions?

This would most likely start on a small scale under local government first and would be used by local individuals under a government program.

Where will these actions be taken?

Different governments in the European Union.

How much will emissions be reduced or sequestered vs. business as usual levels?

It should reduce at least 50% of emissions in an area of use if used there against doing nothing.

What are other key benefits?

The recycling of raw materials used in the process.  No imports of fuel.
