Judges'' comments
The proposal addresses an important but mostly marginalized area. We think that this is a novel proposal focusing on cultural heritage, and is rare in a world of technical solutions - thus it was highly ranked on novelty and it has stimulated a very interesting conversation among the judges. Also, has a viable methodology with replicability potential.
The impacts remain a little nebulous, however, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out in practice. Although its impact on cc adaptation is essentially null, it may have impacts down the line, building fabric of communities to begin thinking about cc adaptation.

Congratulations! Your proposal, Adapting Cultural Heritage to Climate Change, in the Adaptation contest, has been selected to advance as a Semi-Finalist. Thank you for your work on this very important issue. We're proud of your proposal, and we hope that you are too. Again, congratulations!
Please see below the following comments to enhance your proposal:
This proposal addresses a dimension of climate change responses that is often ignored in favour of a focus on technical solutions or biophysical impacts: the cultural, historical, and social implications of climate change impacts. The actions proposed are feasible, and potentially powerful, with significant implications for policymaking and local climate change adaptation planning. One caution to the applicant would be to give careful thought to challenges that the potential audience might face in accessing and using the web-based platform. While these technologies certainly create significant opportunities for deeper engagement, they can also be exclusionary, and occasionally frustrating to use.
Overall, this proposal is well-written, and addresses and under-explored aspect of climate change adaptation decision making.
The project addresses an important area. However, there are a couple of suggestions:
- A mapping exercise to document other similar initiatives.
- Documentation of value-addition of this initiative after the above exercise.
- Mainstreaming into international policy and practice processes; going further than a one-off event at Marrakesh.
- The cost estimates given have a rather wide margin; I would suggest getting expert help in developing a realistic budget.
All the best,
2016 Climate CoLab Judges
