This project lacks innovation as the actions discussed have already been taken in many countries.

It is true that System of Rice Intensification (SRI) is a proven alternative rice growing method. However, key challenge is not the technology itself, but rather the wider adaption by farmers (behavioral change) and a sustainable finance mechanism. All these issues are addressed in this proposal, with high chance for a successful up-scaling to other parts of the world.

SRI is not only appropriate for Nepal in reducing methane gas emission but equally important in enhancing family food security. The Nepalese average rice yield (3 tons/ha) is the lowest in Asia which could be significantly increased through SRI method, thereby, reducing annual rice import as well as dependence on foreign food aids. This is a rare opportunity for the agricultural agency of the Nepalese government to actually realize the huge  benefits of SRI against the backdrop of weakening family food security and diverse adverse effects of climate change that is seriously affecting economy and the overall growth and development of the country.
