Finalist Evaluation

Judges'' comments

The judges felt that this was a very interesting and innovative proposal that seems ripe and ready to go. They noted the concept's excellent built-in platforms, communities, leadership, and enthusiasm, and encourage the authors to go for it in the future. If the idea can scale, it could have a strong impact. The idea has a strong connection with local communities and ability to reach audiences through existing interests. You have a clear, compelling timeline and strategy.

They had a few questions that remain unanswered: How will the proposed reforestation work? Where will the trees be planted, and by whom? How will it be paid for? How will this proposal significantly shift behavior?

They had a few suggestions for improving the proposal: identify your favorite three potential sponsors and involve them to boost awareness and defray costs. Come up with a robust list of surfing-oriented sponsor possibilities with brands that a broad audience will know.

Thank you for your submission to the Climate CoLab. The Judges were excited by your proposal, and intrigued by the possibility of engaging this community. Connecting with a recreational past time like surfing, makes taking action on climate change approachable and fun.

Suggestion: identify your favorite three potential sponsors and involve them to boost awareness and defray costs. e.g., Patagonia, etc.
