Finalist Evaluation

Judges'' comments

The judges felt that this is an Interesting idea, but it needs more solid grounding in current ongoing work among the tech community as well as current research in the area as to how people actually use Siri et al. They felt key questions were not addressed: What evidence do you have that anybody would ask Siri about their footprint? Why / how should she know? How would you address obstacles of access to Apple and Google or opportunities to partner with organizations that have inroads with executives?

Judges'' comments

We like the novelty of this proposal. Obstacles for shifting behavior are often related to either feeling fatalistic about the scale of the problem, or being overwhelmed by the options available. It's intriguing to think about how to use smart phone technology to provide people with succinct information on reducing their carbon footprint. It's clever to focus on apps that people already use in their daily lives.

There are a few ways this proposal could be strengthened:

- How can a case be made for why the value of this approach is different from a typical Google search, especially if the goal is to make the queries more fun and engaging?
- Is there data on how many users ask these types of questions to Siri? What are Siri's current answers?
- How do Apple and Google currently develop content for Siri responses? Are there examples of organizations who have successfully engaged with these companies to collaborate on content?
