Thank you for your proposal to the Climate Colab Contest!
We the judges have made the following comments and posed the questions below to help you sharpen the proposal to get to the next level and have a strong case:
1. The overall proposal lacks details on transport, composting/compost processing [presumably for agricultural use] or anaerobic digestion. A number of U.S. universities have already implemented these programs. In addition, food waste collection programs are being or have already been developed in a number of cities, particularly in California and the pacific northwest U.S. A number of European cities have had separate food waste collection programs for years. Please be more specific with respect to the what? where? when? and how? for this particular application.
2. Who will pay for it?
3. If food waste is separately collected and then diverted to composting or to anaerobic digestion, where will this be done and what are the associated transportation impacts for this particular application?
4. Is there a ready market for any compost produced?/if so, what?
5. What post-production compost screening/sorting steps are required?
6. What scale is feasible?
7. Should school and local restaurant wastes be combined?8. Can a digester be sited in a city neighborhood? Is this a reasonable assumption taking into account their size?
