Summary
Here’s one suggestion:
Wondering if the United Nations could establish a legal precedence for establishing risk models around climate impact and develop case law against countries who violate the rights of other countries. This would allow / encourage the use of climate data to be used as evidence for supporting cause & effect where damages can be awarded to impacted countries.
Many coastal populations are dealing with mass starvation are due to dwindling supplies of fish (over fishing and/or pollution)
Many countries are impacted by the lack of water due to climate change, which has caused starvation and loss of agriculture (US is on the verge of seeing a significant impact in the midwest). Ramifications of water shortages in the middle east are well known. Water won’t solve all problems, but it goes a long way towards achieving peace.
Many countries are impacted by pollution, which drives up the cost of healthcare and reduces long(lung)-evity.
IFF accountability could be established thru a tort system then we may be able to shift some of the concentration of wealth and restore some of the gross imbalances (income inequality) and the impacts on people and the environment.
Ultimately, the UN lacks “teeth” as the enforcement is not a reliable nor sufficiently powerful capability. The legal scaffolding would have to be established / expanded but the timing is urgent as no country is capable or prepared to constrain their institutions revenue earning potential to save our planet (our home).
