I think that it is a good idea. Farmers in Cote d'Ivoire  have not possibility to anticipate climate variability and their vulnerability significantly alters their income. Such a project will surely help farmers to better adapt to climate change.

This is a great proposal for strengthening the development of climate services to support an agricultural index insurance scheme for managing climate risks in Ivory Coast. It could be strengthened with the additional dimension of  development or strengthening of policy to ensure there is a mandate and budget, to build the technical capacity of the national meteorological service (in cooperation w/regional institutions) to provide agro-hydrometeorological forecasting for the crops to be selected, and upon which an insurable index can be based.

Cote d Ivoire is considered as one of the driver of the west africa economy. Moreover, its GDP is mainly based on agriculture. Therefore this type of project that want to enhance the agricultural sector resilience through a innovative tool of risk management is very interesting. Nevertheless, find a reliable index and the relevant crop are the challenges that need to be solved through the feasibility study.

Last 3 years and more, we received at office lot of farmers who were deeply and morally slaughtered because of the extreme and uncommon heat waves occured few days before the harvest season. They lost everything and no way to find money to survive. This is not the only case due to climate change risks and impacts. There also flood and other related climate unpredictable phenomenon !

So how can we help them ? Only through a climate insurance mechanism that can help farmers to face climate change risks on they agriculture and have alternate option to reduce their vulnerability.

This is the best way to fight again poverty in rural world !
