Semi-Finalist Evaluation

Judges'' comments

This is a well researched proposal. However, for over a decade a lot of work is going on in the sector of climate smart agriculture, particularly on rice production. This has been led by CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research), FAO etc. In Bangladesh, many organizations have been engaged in this work, along with the above mentioned, such as Bangladesh Rice Research Institute etc. The need is to improve outreach and scale up innovative initiatives while working with small landowners.

We didn't find this proposal particularly innovative in adaptation terms. It is written very much from an agronomic standpoint, without any consideration of the impact the proposed innovation would have on farms or social systems. Would farmers find this innovation easy to integrate, or would they struggle for example to find sufficient labour - would children possibly be kept out of school to provide the added labour? Consideration of the social dimension of these projects is essential.
