Semi-Finalist Evaluation

Judges'' comments

- Imaginative idea, but not clear why one wouldn't simply pump water being discharged into the ocean into water supply systems, which is standard practice at present for urban and agricultural areas around the world. A compelling argument for why this is a competitive alternative to the construction of a standard reservoir isn't really presented.

- What is the point of making a payment into the sea? Is the intent of the reservoir to capture all of the freshwater flowing from the rivers before it heads to the ocean? Thus you are trying to describe that if you take all of that freshwater, some of it will still need to go back to the ocean? You could also point out that it is geopolitically better to capture this freshwater as it is leaving land, since reservoirs and dams further upstream can harm downstream communities and farms. I like the concept and think that your comparison with desalination is a good one. It's helpful you show how they can be moved.
