Dropline is an in-house waste sort,collection and energy generating system. The idea comes from the bucket slide used on construction sites.


Description

Summary

Dropline is an in-house waste sorting and collection system that can be installed in all buildings, especially high rising residential units. The concept comes from the bucket slides seen on construction sites where the waste is guided to the waste bin. In the same way buildings can collect and sort their waste by installing droplines within the buildings skeleton to collect waste in the basement, here the waste can be sorted used to generate heat and electricity with gasifier/combustion units. 

Dropline enable a building to generate its own electricity with combustion units, these units release heat, the heat can then be used to either warm or cool the building and to heat water. Droplines can be installed in each residential unit or a specific drop point can be installed on each floor, depending on each specific buildings own demand. 

Dropline ensures that people are more active in recycling, it saves on waste removal costs and cleaning services, the cycle from the consumers hand to the recycled product is just so much shorter. Buildings will save on heating and electricity bills and town councils/municipalities will save on waste removal costs, waste dumps will decline and less landfill/methane gas.

Smaller buildings can pool the collected waste and have one centralized gasification unit. 

In the future buildings will be designed to accommodate droplines and to install basement waste sorting plants.

What actions do you propose?

I propose that Droplines are made mandatory for buildings over a certain amount of residents. The amount has to be calculated to estimated the possible amount of waste that can be collected and how economical that amount will be to generate electricity and heat.

Dropline will encourage residents to be more active in recycling and will have a direct savings effect on landfills and the amount of methane gas that landfill and waste sites produce.


Who will take these actions?

Property developers will benefit directly from the Dropline concept and can be used as an added "Green building feature" to promote and sell properties.

Governments can enforce building guidelines to install Droplines as a mandatory bulk services to buildings.


Where will these actions be taken?

Mostly big cities, and mostly in high-rise residential units and hotels.

Impact/Benefits


What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

Droplines will have a direct saving on the amount of methane gas released from dump sites as well as a direct saving on the amount of fuel and energy that was used to previously remove waste and garbage from huge flats/residential units and hotels.


What are other key benefits?

Land fill gas like methane is a huge problem, and landfills themselves take up a lot of space and effort to maintain. Dropline will reduce both these problems and indirectly it reduces the amount of fuel burned to transport the garbage to the landfills.

The ash that is left behind after the combustion process can then be used for inner-city farming or it can be incorporated into cement mixtures during building projects.


Costs/Challenges


What are the proposal’s projected costs?

No projected costs yet, each building will have its own individual design and costing will have to be done for each and every building depending on size and the amount of people staying inside the building.


Timeline

Direct impact from day 1 after installation, there will be a direct saving on waste removal costs and a direct saving on the amount of methane released from landfill sites.
