Pitch

Mint crypto money proportional to the amount of carbon saved. For example, if somebody sets a wind turbine, send free tokens to him or her.

Description

Summary

I've created software that allows creating courts that mint in unlimited quantities crypto money accordingly a group ("court") decision. We can mint to somebody amounts of tokens proportional to the amount of carbon abolished by him or her. If one plants 10 trees and confirms it to us, mint him, say, 10 tokens. If one builds a wind turbine, mint him some amount of tokens, etc.

The tokens shall be listed on electronic exchanges and grow in price by analogy with BitCoin: BitCoin is pricy because it is hard to get it. In a similar way our tokens will be hard to obtain. The intercourt trust feature of my software will allow to interchange money between different courts, even by adding programmable automatic or semi-automatic exchanges.

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

Practice

What actions do you propose?

Create a network of crypto courts judging how much to reward to climate actions.

To create a court, it is necessary to choose a group of judges, who are a little software savvy. A small amount of crypto money (Ether) is necessary to allocate to every judge to support court operations. Then you welcome to send requests for rewards. After this they just vote and the money appears in wallets of rewardees.

What is not yet done is an advanced interconnecting of courts, in such a way to coordinate courts with each others wisely. I can work further on this software.

Who will take these actions?

  • programmers (currently me, I can continue to be the project leader)
  • marketers (to spread awareness about the project)
  • technical support personnel to help set courts and teach judges
  • judges (who take actual decisions by voting)
  • crypto exchanges

I also can help to coordinate efforts of different organizations.

Where will these actions be taken?

Impact/Benefits

What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

It is impossible for a human to calculate this in advance, but the idea is to change the entire world trade to become green.

Additionally, the same court software can be used not only to reduce emissions but also just to help victims and other poors of all kinds, so adapting better to climate change.

What are other key benefits?

The project idea is to change the entire world trade to become good-based rather than profit by market based.

It means that the project can reduce monetary injustice of different kinds, fund science and free software, compensate victims, reduce wars, support journalism, schools and colleges, disaster recovery funds, etc.

Particularly, we can support not only direct actions to reduce emissions but also support climate groups and activists.

Costs/Challenges

What are the proposal’s projected costs?

Costs are low:

  • I already created a prototype of the software, working for free, further programming can also be done by volunteers such as me. (However, assigning me a monetary compensation is welcome.)
  • Judges are expected to be volunteers.
  • To make a decision, it is necessary to pay Ethereum network fees, which may range like $1 per vote or so (I don't know more exact number).

Marketing costs may be as huge as you allocate, but I hope the project to go viral and advertise itself even with minimum marketing expenses (minimum expenses expected to be about tens of dollars).

Negative side effects may include elitist economy where to obtain money one needs to be famous among judges.

Main challenges:

  • Build additional Ethereum software to interconnect multiple courts in a smart way (e.g. limiting an amount of money for which one court may trust to the other). Develop existing software further. Better Web design.
  • Find enough judges (with enough expertise).
  • Coordinate courts with each other, to reduce duplication and thus fragmentation of activities.
  • Evaluate how much different activities reduce carbon.
  • Market the project well, make it viral.
  • Current wallets and exchanges mostly don't support ERC-1155, the new standard for crypto money that I use. So recipients need to wait after they receive money till they will be able to use it (expected a few months since now). Or we can help to develop such the software to speed up the process.
  • Need to list our currencies on exchanges.
  • A court may be fraudulent or otherwise faulty.
  • Recipients may be unwise or pressed to spend their money too quickly before the crypto grows in price.

Timeline

The project is expected to grow together with crypto market.

It may have an impact on some people, companies, and their carbon reduction in probably 1 year.

In 15 years it may become big.

In less than 50 years (when crypto becomes the main method of payment) it may transform the entire world economy.

In 100 years it may significantly reduce carbon.
