This appears to be a very novel and interesting idea. Many countries - both developed and developing - are facing an elderly population bulge and thinking about how to deal with this. Solutions will be diverse and wide ranging. The suggested idea of employment in fruit tree cultivation, with their decedents benefiting from the trees at maturity is a nice one. It could be deployed even in rich countries (say Japan). In terms of presentation, the only low mark that I gave, I found the proposal a bit long and rambling and hard to follow. Try to put a brief synopsis paragraph perhaps. I did not notice a budget. I agree that starting in one location with a pilot might be a tractable scale to start at. Good luck!

This is a very interesting idea. I like that it takes a really systems-level approach to solving several issues simultaneously (notably the issue of valuing and enhancing the lives of the elderly and the environmental benefits of tree-planting). For the next round, the authors would do well to significantly enhance the presentation of the proposal - added text and clarity about the SDGs that are addressed (and especially how these are addressed) by the proposal; added detail in the budget and detailed plans (where, when, how, who, etc.). I'd also like to know more about which Climate Co-Lab proposals this builds on and how. Personally, I think it would be very interesting to add a multi-generational aspect here. The elderly have a lot to offer to young people ... could this be incorporated somehow.

  5. I have updated who will take these actions and which types of actors are involved in detail

  6. I have also updated where the actions will be taken and how they could scale

  7. I have updated additional Impact/Benefits

Dear sir/madam,

Thank you so much for considering the proposal to the finalist level. I too agree that the proposal is feasible and scalable even to the developed countries where elderly are on the rise. Since this initiative helps in healthy ageing in all aspects (physical, psychological, social and economical) in some or the other way, the elderly are benefited to a greater extent. I feel UNEA is the right platform to share this idea where the idea can be scaled to all the country members, NGO's and other stakeholders who can modify the proposal according to their respective country profile and needs. Therefore, this idea can have an impact on the global elderly, global hunger, global education and mainly global environment to have a better ageing society with good climatic conditions to live with for the the future generations.

kind regards,

Brief synopsis

Elderly population are on the rise in India and globally facing difficulties with respect to economic and health aspects specifically. Also, the climatic conditions in India are becoming worse due to deforestation, urbanization and industrialization. This proposal proposes that elderly should be given an incentive every month ($8)to plant, protect and nurture a fruit bearing tree and the fruits will be transported by his children with incentives and their grandchildren will get an 5% subsidy in education and an additional subsidy of 5% more if the grandchildren starts planting a tree by themselves. Therefore, there is involvement of the multiple generations leading to "Intergenerational Healthy Ageing". The benefits for the elderly are being more economically sound, active, social, healthy (for eg. coming out in sunlight can give Vitamin D), sense of well-being and contribution to the future generation as role models. The benefits to the children are incentive, feel good for helping their parents, start planting tree and protecting the trees of the their parents. The benefits to the grand children are education, feeling good that they are reducing the burden of education on the parents, the bonding with the family increases, the best time to inculcate environmental good habits and behavior through elderly as role models. The benefits to the flora and fauna especially the missing, extinct birds and few small animals in the urban industrialized areas can be attracted and protected by planting fruit bearing trees. The benefit to the country are using these fruits produced on the under privileged society to reduce hunger, taking care of elderly rise, cambating school dropouts, better climatic conditions etc...  Ultimately, achieving 8 sustainable development goals, which are indeed realistic, feasible, scalable, eco-friendly and intergenerational friendly for the betterment of the global climatic situation with high impact.

Dear sir/madam,

Budget for the "Inter generational Healthy ageing",

In a phased manner the total budget for 5 years is as follows,

Elderly incentive for five years =$189.5 Billion

(Year 1=$9.6 Billion, Year 2=$24 Billion, Year 3=$37.9 Billion, Year 4=51.8 Billion, Year 5=$66.2 Billion)

+ Youth incentive for five years=$12 Billion

(Year 1=$0.6 Billion, Year 2=$1.5 Billion, Year 3=$2.4 Billion, Year 4=3.3 Billion, Year 5=$4.2 Billion)

Total Budget = $ 201.5 Billion.

I hope I have sincerely addressed all the quires.

Kind regards,

Dr Santosh K Yatnatti
