A nicely written proposal on an important, but often overlooked, problem of waste management and climate change. I don't think creation of a UN working group is necessary, nor important, for this project to succeed. The UN already has work in this area, and this would probably work better as a grassroots initiative anyway. I also think the statement that this could work 'in any country' is a bit naive. Languages are sure to be an issue, and real on the ground waste management problems and solutions are very, very different in different countries, so one solution simply does not fit all. This said, nice proposal. Good luck!

This proposal offers to "take a holistic approach on waste reduction" but does not provide sufficiently concrete and compelling ways of doing so. It lists and describes several of the proposals featured on the Climate CoLab but does not integrate them. How would this effort bring the various ideas together? The proposal states that it will develop a unified system to waste reduction but does not describe such a system. There are no references, and no costs and no challenges have been identified.

This proposal aims to reduce waste through a variety of programs including an educational game and a platform for businesses to share materials. Other plans are less clear and depend on considerable involvement by policy-makers at multiple levels of government. The specific action items are not very well spelled out.

Interesting ideas here, but I found them to be a bit of a grab bag ... education, waste reduction, working with industry. It might be better for the authors to pick a single strong focus around which the other ideas can flow. As it is, I think the benefits are fairly limited in this somewhat mainstream proposal.

I really like that this proposal focuses on waste, but it still seems to be a bit thin on specific details on implementation. Other than education, what are the other incentives to engage in waste reduction/recycling/up-cycling? There are a lot of really interesting initiatives out there dealing with food waste- especially using technology, it would be good to reference how these could be included in this proposal- and also to provide some tangible description of what an implementation of this proposal would like on the ground. Also, is there a way to include waste-pickers and other organizations to link waste reduction and up-cycling to livelihoods and job creation. I think expanding the scope of the proposal would increase its chance of success- and in particular partnering with the proposal "https://www.climatecolab.org/contests/2017/exploring-synergistic-solutions-for-sustainable-development/c/proposal/1334253" could be extremely synergistic.

Dear Judge,

thank you very much for your comments. I've updated the proposal, focusing more on the details and examples of specific steps on food waste minimisation as well as plastic usage challenges. There has been created a holistic approach to waste reduction starting from behaviour change and production/retail and ending with recommended legal regulations which will tackle the global issues, create cleaner environment and also provide new income streams for poor regions.
