Pitch

The current goal of the alliance is net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 in accordance with the Paris Agreement. Too little too late?

Description

Summary

This is a call to all Climate Colab members inform your local UN officials that the proposed actions by UN is too little to late. We need net zero carbon emissions now not 30 years from now.

We cannot wait for the UN to slowly act on the climate change crisis which effects every single citizen on planet Earth. The UN's solution for acting right now (and not continual planning for the decades long building of clean energy infrastructure, The Kyoto Protocol or Cap and Trade,),is ActNow bot. What more can we do (not for the future) but today here at Climate Colab to go beyond the status quo without geo-engineering, substantial governmental subsidies or corporate sponorship? We need door to door, village to village getting the word out to live with less electricity and water now.

What actions do you propose?

Noting the disconnect between the activities of UN members and COP25 and the citizens they represent there is  ActNow bot which is athttps://www.un.org/en/actnowThe home page states that "545546 CLIMATE ACTIONS TAKEN AROUND THE WORLD"  actions include those badges shown below. Note all images below are those of the UN's ActNow Campaign.

-------------------  THE PROPOSAL -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most of us members of Climate Colab know of these ActNow "green tips" by heart but too few citizens in the developed world put these simple steps into practice. Just as certain municipalities around the industrialized world like to annually report in the media how many of their citizens are participating in the city's recycling program we need a similar METRIC for citizen acts of CO2 emission reduction at the national, provincial and municipal level.

545546 acts as reported by this UN website is a good start to address the issue of GHG emissions but we need a movement globally now.  We must expand the number of participants in UN's ActNow Campaign. We must engage other citizens to join this effort now.  Ideas?  Please post them under the Comments tab above.

ONE IDEA:

Just as some world cities have free downloadable, real time, app for bus or train arrivals and departures on particular routes for their citizen riders cities must provide a free app which employs the above tenets of ActNow campaign which allows user to weekly note their participation in the above carbon neutralizing acts.  At the end of the year each city around the world can do a media promotion about how many citizens are participating in the ActNow campaign. Make participation a contest between cities, provinces and nations.

ALTERNATIVE TO ABOVE IDEA:

Unplug, de-digitize, scale-down your e-footprint. Recall ways previous generations communicated, stored data, operated businesses, and implement a low-tech approach (smaller carbon footprint) to those tasks in life which people have replaced with their phones, and databases. In era of constant data breaches, ransom-ware, wouldn't that drive more people and businesses offline at least to have offline redundancy in place?

Thank you everyone for your participation in the Climate Colab.

Who will take these actions?

All of us at Climate Colab will act. We all must spread the word about the ActNow Campaign in our schools, at work, in bars and cafes, and with friends and family members. The UN ActNow effort is not the solution to reducing the CO2 emissions of humans on Earth but it is a simple initiative we can all participate in.

Where will these actions be taken?

In schools, at work, cafes and bars, on the street, in the village in the forest everywhere people live, work and play will use the ActNow bot type app provided free to download from the city, province they reside in.

The list of countries below is not inclusive. All the people of industrialized nations must take these actions.

In addition, specify the country or countries where these actions will be taken.

China

Country 2

Brazil

Country 3

India

Country 4

United States

Country 5

United Kingdom

Impact/Benefits

What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

Two years from now people in the countries listed above will use less carbon emitting energy sources.

What are other key benefits?

A greater sense of accomplishment for all citizens on Earth knowing each and everyone of them can help with the crisis of global warming, not just climate scientists.
