Wind Powered Vehicle by I Care About The Environment

Share via:

Pitch

This is a car that runs entirely on wind energy. It can save many lives both human and animal plus it can lower sea levels.

Description

Summary

This can help save many lives, with lower sea levels the risk of flooding is less. In addition it can stop hurricanes from growing stronger and moving farther north. This will also save the habitats of many animals and we can cut down the endangered species list. And with no more thawing permafrost that means less carbon dioxide will be let out into the atmosphere.

By putting miniature windmills on the top of the car we can use the existing electric motor to drive while the miniature windmills will recharge the battery as the car moves. The wind going against it will move the windmills rapidly and that will power the motors. It can also power GPS and other navigational devices. In addition it can serve as a power station for phones, computers, and iPads. Also on windy days the owners of the car can charge it. This can also be used for other vehicles such as airplanes and boats.

The turbines will have to be large in width so it will be able to get the force of the wind flowing as the car is going at 40 miles per hour for example, an average electric car can run 100 miles with 30 kWh per hour. This will create more than enough energy so a fraction of the electricity generated can go to a battery for emergency use. This means we have no use for a cylinder in the engine and we will not need a catalytic convertor.

The turbines will also have to be the opposite of aerodynamic so we can create more energy in the generator because a generator creates electricity from kinetic energy. So I was thinking a rectangular shaped blade that is hollow would be best. It should be rectangular because then it will not be aerodynamic and it should be hollow so it is lightweight. The whole thing needs to be coated in a strong alloy so it can withstand the force of the wind hitting it. This can be the Winston Churchill of the war against climate change.

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

Not sure

What actions do you propose?

Creating the energy to fuel electric cars most likely comes from burning fossil fuels. This still puts greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. So if we only use a little bolt of electricity to get the car moving then the wind energy will power the car from then on. I think a company should make these cars and trucks so people will buy it. I also think some designers should make a model that looks like something people will buy.

Who will take these actions?

I think Tesla motors and the UN should take these actions. One of Tesla's goals is to help the environment with electric cars. The UN also has a goal to reduce greenhouse gases in the air so I think this would be perfect for them if they team up to make this global. Elon Musk ( CEO of Tesla ) launched a contest for the same topic as this. I might put my idea into that so they might put my plan into action. In addition MIT could help a lot because technology is their field.

Where will these actions be taken?

Anywhere with a lot of air pollution from cars.

In addition, specify the country or countries where these actions will be taken.

Impact/Benefits

What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

This will lower the rate of the polar caps melting. There could be an Arctic Ocean with no ice in the future. Climate change will cause animals living there to lose their homes and that will drive them to extinction.

What are other key benefits?

This could help the economy if the car is a success and people like it. It can also help people save a lot of money because they would not have to go to a gas station to get fuel for this car. People do not usually like paying for gasoline. In addition there will be no need for a cylinder inside the engine and there will be no need for a catalytic convertor.

Costs/Challenges

What are the proposal’s projected costs?

I am not sure on the cost because it can vary due to the fashion part of the car. Some negative effects can be if someone runs out of energy too quickly or if the wind is against where the wind is supposed to go.

Timeline

For short-term I think it can improve the air quality in certain countries. For the medium term I think it will lower the overall temperature. Finally for the long-term I think that it will be too old and slow for people's liking. Also this is all assuming that it gains popularity quickly.

About the author(s)

I am a 5th grader, I enjoy fossil finding and studying. I want to make the world a better place for both people and animals by helping the environment. One of the things I likes to study about is thawing permafrost. I think electric cars can make a gargantuan difference in the battle against climate change.
