Semi-Finalist Evaluation

Judge 1:
Thanks for sending in this proposal. It addresses a very important issue: the infrastructure for urban transportation, which has no obvious solution. System costs are high - often so high that the costs cannot be covered by ticket revenue. Reducing the costs for building such a system and developing designs which are quick and easy to set up is significant. I have some doubts about this particular concept though: (1) Monorails have rarely been built around the world for various reasons, although the technology has been on the market for quite a while now. How does the proposed new technology address the issues which has prevented the introduction of monorails so far? (2) How does the cost of the monorail system compare to the cost of operating a bus or street car system (with/without maintenance)? What about their environmental impact - any numbers? (3) What's the capacity? (4) What about redundancy? We know that public transport systems must be reliable to gain user acceptance. To me, this seems hard to achieve if you have just one track. Please do not feel discouraged to further work on your idea. However, I suggest that you specify your ideas and work out a transportation concept considering your system. It is important to look at urban mobility not just from a technological perspective, I think! It's the system that matters - and your monorail might fill a gap. Try to identify that gap!!
