Proposal
contributor

Hyperloop is building in Maryland because the Elon Musk is rich and famous. The Governor issued a waiver granting 10 miles of Rights of Way access.

The Solar Mobility Act in this proposal would allow other podcar network innovators to obtain Rights of Way.

Current regulations require bureaucracies to issue an exemption, which is against their nature.

The Solar Mobility Act changes to access to Rights of Way so bureaucracies have to write a rejection.

This may seem like a small change, but is a critical difference.

In reference to the judge's comments, more information has been provided on JPods.

Feasible

  • Technical—
    • Packets/pods already used in factories (Kiva Systems), Morgantown, Heathrow Airport
  • Economic—

       For JPods Solar Mobility Networks:

    • $.04/mile to operate less than any other form of transportation
    • 10 million/mile to build equivalent to adding a lane on an expressway
    • Overhead rail in one direction as the capacity of 6 lanes
    • Typically pays for itself within 5 years in an urban area
  • Social—
    • People choose where they would like to have Solar Mobility built
    • Investors will only invest where it is desired Will become preferred form of travel because it is faster, safer, more affordable
    • Appeal to many different people for different reasons—bicyclists, disabled, commuters, shoppers, students, elderly, young
  • Political—
    • Wording of legislation is straightforward (only have to explain that the safety standards are same as for theme parks)
    • Once Solar Mobility Act is adopted by a state and state issues regulations, systems can expand
    • People are working to bring Solar Mobility to the U.S., such as in Massachusetts with bills filed in the State legislature and growing support in Boston, Somerville, and on the South and North Shores
    • People working around the globe, including India and China.

Novel

  • Innovative—
    • Solar Mobility Act motivates transit to solarize, not just electrify.  The Solar Mobility Act covers variations in solar transit innovations.

    • Can turn corners to create a network web not just spokes-and-hub. Stations can be within a 15 minute walk everywhere in urban areas

  • Comprehensive approach—
    • Moves traffic above the street plane with small quiet vehicles
    • Solves congestion
    • Solves street level safety

    • Has potential to integrate pods on street, under rail and in tube.

Major impact on climate change—

  • Amount of greenhouse gas emissions reductions—
    • Transportation--cut most of emissions from transportation which range from 45% of carbon dioxide emissions in Massachusetts to 27% of greenhouse gas emissions in U.S. to 14% of carbon greenhouse gas emissions world-wide
    • Electricity—cut emissions from producing electricity and heat because miles of solar panels and demand for storage will bring down price of solar through manufacturing efficiencies and will provide large market for energy storage innovation, also making it affordable.  Fossil fuel power plants emit 17% carbon dioxide emissions in Massachusetts and 34% of greenhouse gas emissions in US and 25% of greenhouse gas emissions world-wide

The scissors and dashed lines indicate the potential to cut carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions in half both directly through transportation and as a catalyst for increasing use of solar and energy storage.
