Semi-Finalist Evaluation

Judge 1:

Interesting concept with a lot of potential impact. Could have more detail on how the hubs will facilitate greater segregation and separation - perhaps incorporate training, education, and development models for the waste pickers to create careers.

Potential for exploitation still exists - how are the hubs going to ensure that the waste pickers are the ones who receive the benefits from the hubs and that the middlemen won’t still maintain control. Role landlord? Unclear how the business model would work and how to scale - are the hubs able to pay 2-3x higher to the waste pickers and still be able to maintain a feasible business model for the materials recycled through the hubs? Control and protection procedure of good practice needs to be put in place What is permanent equipment ?

Judge 2:

A nicely introduced challenge that absolutely deserves the attention. The part of this proposal related to the explanation of the existing system and obstacles is very clear, while the proposed solution cannot be understood as something that can be easily implemented. It would be worth investing some more time into the exploration of different models focused on "value chain" and stakeholders involved. Obstacles that are exposed can most likely not be easily overcome what should not be a reason to stop researching ways to make this proposal come true.
