Kelvin Valley Honey (KVH) is a community owned, environmentally focused social enterprise based in Scotland's Central Belt - the nation's most heavily populated and disadvantaged region.

Founded in 2011 KVH is an offshoot of Kilsyth Community Market Garden, Scotland's first community owned commercial sacle market garden being developed through the reclamation of 42 acres of derelict land on the site of a former coal mine.

KVH principle objectives are;

  • contributing to halting the decline in Scotland's honey bee populations through increasing the numbers of low income individuals, schools and community groups taking up beekeeping via its (unique in Europe) 'Become a Beekeeper for Free' initiative which provides training, intensive mentoring,beehives, honey bee starter colonies, clothing, equipment etc. all for FREE together with replacing lost and creating additional honey bee foraging and wild life habitats through volunteer delivered RECLMATION of derelict (former industrial sites) land AND encouraging changes in the public's gardening habits through the annual free distribution of over 6,000 flowering fruit tree saplings, fruit bushes and wild flower seed pacjets ALONG with campaigning for the local authorities to replace lawned areas in public parks with a uniquely KVH developed alternative - a combination of hardy herbs and wild flowers which can be walked, sat and played games on and mown without damaging the plantings.
  • contributing to the social and economic regeneration of disadvantaged communities through supporting the development of replica KVH model beekeeping, honey, honey and beeswax consumer products producing social enterprises
  • creating employment, reducing the isolation and increasing the community involvement of people housebound through disability and /or long term or life limiting illnesses.
