Thaven is currently the Africa Climate Change Adaptation Co-ordinator for the ground-breaking Climate Technology Initiative (CTI)to raise private sector investment and finance for climate change adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa through the Private Finance Advisory Network (PFAN). He is responsible for preparing the Request for Proposals, the identification and evaluation of projects, selection and appointment of coaches, managing interaction with the Frankfurt School UNEP Centre for Collaboration as the research partner, reporting and overall co-ordination of the programme, including organising workshops and the Investor Forum. As the Southern African representative for CTI PFAN he is involved in expanding the network in the region through outreach missions, co-ordinating the network and events, and managing relationships with key partners, including companies in the green economy, international organisations, state enterprises, development finance institutions and private sector equity funds and institutions.

He has had extensive experience as a renewable energy project developer, working on both large and small scale projects, and draws experience from a range of industries, including print, radio and television media, the entertainment industry, the computer industry and is a practising farmer working without chemicals in a low carbon, low input sustainable farming system using innovative technologies and indigenous knowledge systems.

He has a degree in sustainable development and renewable energy (BPhil) from the Sustainability Institute of the University of Stellenbosch and as degree in architecture from the University of Cape Town (BAS).
