Member Profile
I come from Germany, where I worked six years as a lecturer/senior lecturer in economics at Muenster University and as Associate Director of the Muenster University Institute of Transport Economics before coming to MIT in early 2011. My research interests are centered on quantitative analyses in the fields of energy and transportation economics, in particular the economic and environmental impacts of transportation networks on a local, regional and global scale, as well as on the development and assessment of measures for reducing the environmental impact of these networks.
In terms of research on aviation and the environment, I am currently focusing on alternative jet fuels, which is a promising but also challenging field because of the novelty of some of the technologies involved and the various trade-offs in terms of environmental and economic sustainability.
