Prepared for Last Chance by Last Chance Team
Pitch
For worst-case scenarios we might need a "last chance option" in which we mimic the natural effect of aerosols at a longer time scale.
Description
Summary
Since we are already over 400ppm CO2 (on route to 500ppm) and the public and political support for extensive cuts in fossil-fuel use is only going to be achieved when things will get very, very ugly, oil will be scarce, economy will be depressed and it will be too late for any other preventive policy fix, we might need a "last chance option" in which we mimic the natural effect of aerosols on a longer time scale.
Such a solution:
- must be technically feasible and reasonably-clear proven in theory
- ideally should not be incredibly expensive on a global scale
- should not depend on burning a huge amount of extra fossil fuels
- should be easily scalable
- the impact should be easy to test on a slightly smaller financial and quicker time scale
- the initial assesment should provide clear and definitive results if the fix will work at the final desired scale.
