Pitch
A global fund to tackle problems of world hunger, climate change, child mortality, existential extinction events, other unknown threats
Description
Summary
There are clearly massively pressing global issues that the human species needs to address but is failing to do so through a multitude of complex factors such as political will, complexity of governance structures, vested interests, apathy, lack of understanding / disbelief.
However, The biggest single factor that would help to make progress on the threats that our species faces is MONEY.
There is huge wealth disproportionately held by a small number of individuals and each year businesses continue to generate healthy return on investments - for those same individuals.
If there was a global 1% tax on companies net earnings (over a certain size) this would generate enough money to fund a significant number of initiatives without having to navigate politics and fund raising challenges.
The Gross World Product is circa $100 trillion, assume net earnings of 10%, i.e. $10 trillion then 1% = $100 billion (annually) - a not insignificant figure if pointed at a focussed set of objectives.
The cost would as far as possible be spread evenly across those that could afford the small incremental tax increase
Challenges:
Fund administration and allocation, corruption potential, collection of money - cryptocurrency ?
Early adoption ideally by key global brands
