Proposal: The GreenLine: You shop. We reduce the impact. Contest: Shifting Attitudes and Behaviors Thank you for your contest entry, The GreenLine: You shop. We reduce the impact.. We appreciate your willingness to share your ideas, and also the time and effort you put into developing a proposal and submitting it to the
. As your entry did not sufficiently address some of the revisions the Judges were hoping to see, we did not advance it to the next round of competition. We encourage you to keep developing your idea. Transfer your proposal to a Workspace to re-open it, make edits, add collaborators, and even submit it into a future contest. You can do so by logging into your account, opening your proposal, selecting the Admin tab, and clicking “Move proposal.” We welcome you to stay involved in the Climate CoLab community: support and comment on proposals that have been named Finalists, and vote during the public voting period to help select the contest’s Popular Choice Winner. Climate CoLab will be opening more contests throughout the year and you are welcome to submit your proposal to those contests as well. Keep up the great work. We hope that by working together, we all can create solutions that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. Sincerely, Contest Fellows If there are additional comments from the Judges & Fellows, they will be included below.

Needs some drastic improvements - there are already a number of platforms that exist like this; concerned that this is already being done - what are the criteria? How do you decide on the criteria? Who is going to determine the criteria? -conduct a complete analysis of the competitive space

This proposal feels immature and incomplete to me. As well, I am aware of multiple other platforms that provide product information along these lines. Environmental Working Group, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, etc.; as well as individual manufacturers such as Applegate Farms and Levi Straus. It would be great to have a complete analysis of the competitive space to display the author's marketing savvy and awareness of the playing field, where some sophisticated players are already underway. Maybe the author(s? no info is provided) will make progress via the Mass Challenge and return to the Climate CoLab contest next year.

This is a good idea. It is only partially fleshed out, which is of course fine, but the massiveness of the undertaking and the many vexed questions of judgment (e.g., which certifications are included) do not seem to be acknowledged. The proposal would be strengthened by a dive into at least one or two examples of those challenges. I would also like to see tracking of collective impact as well as individual impact pitched as a central component of the idea; carbon- and sustainability conscious consumer choices will become much more popular when we feel like we are part of a growing team, and that collective element can also connect consumer choices to civic and political ones.

Good idea, though others have tried versions of this in the past. Would be nice to know how you will evaluate products for the site -- what is your criteria and how will you ensure that companies submitting products for sell on your site meet those requirements? Also, what are the costs for this project? No information is filled out here, but I imagine there would be considerable costs to develop and maintain the site, ensure quality control of products, as well as a marketing budget and strategy. I like the combination of empowering the consumer through educating them about the impact of their purchasing decisions as well as providing information about how the consumer can reduce their impact through the lifecycle of the product (reuse, recycle, donate, etc).

Apart from the financial feasibility, maybe the project should also think about beyond tracking to promote sustainable consumption further (such as competition, gaming, and etc.) Since the demand for sustainability is just one aspect of the customer's need (price, brand, convenience), it should also address these issues to compete for existing market platforms.
