My name is Claudia Cabral, and I am a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology majoring in Planning. I was born in Canada, raised in the United States, and my family comes from the Portuguese archipelago of São Miguel, Azores. I am interested in pursing a career that promotes the development of sustainable communities around the world, uniting both humans and the environment together in harmony.

I am interested in sustainable development because I see that now is a crucial time for both humanity and our knowledge of the environment to work together to solve the world's problems. I have worked on fundraising projects for foster-children, Syrian refugees, cancer patients, and victims of domestic violence, with additional event organization to bring light to LGBTQ+ issues and the National School Walkout against gun violence. I have also done research in reducing embodied carbon in building materials; evaluating evaporative cooling devices for off-grid, low-income, rural communities; and have co-designed an environmental sustainability and engineering camp for rural Thai students; but my journey has only just begun!

I aspire to take the knowledge and wisdom I've acquired on my journey to the United Nations where my leadership, project management, creativity, community organizing, and critical thinking skills can address some of the world's most pressing development issues.
